4 superintendents are switching places as hiring surge continues

Several superintendents and other administrators have found new homes in another busy week of hiring by K12 school boards.

T. Lamar Goree, a former Louisiana superintendent of the year, has been named the lone finalist to become the new leader of Duncanville Independent School District in Texas. Goree has been the superintendent of his hometown district, Caddo Parish Public Schools, since 2013. Caddo Parish reached an all-time high graduation rate under Goree, who also implemented incentive pay for teachers, Duncanville ISD said in a statement.

Also in Texas, Superintendent Quintin Shepherd is moving from Victoria ISD to Pflugerville ISD after having led the previous district since 2018. Shepherd, a regular columnist for the District Administration Leadership Institute, also served as superintendent of the Lin Mar Community Schools in Iowa and two districts in Illinois.

And in one more Texas transfer, Abilene ISD has named John Kuhn the sole finalist to become its next superintendent. Kuhn, who has been in education for 27 years, has been the superintendent of Mineral Wells ISD since 2016 and previously served as superintendent of Perrin-Whitt CISD.

Finally, in New York, Matthew J. Block will take the helm of the Ardsley School District on July 1 after having led Livingston Public Schools in New Jersey since 2019.

More female leaders moving up

The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District in Northern California has chosen Jennifer Sachs as its next superintendent. Sachs, who will start the job on May 1, is now chief of educational services at nearby Mt. Diablo USD.

In Texas, Kimberley James, currently the deputy superintendent at Corpus Christi ISD, is the lone finalist to lead Willis ISD. Rockport-Fulton ISD has picked as its lone finalist Lesley Austin, who is currently the deputy superintendent at Trinity Basin Preparatory.

Celina City Schools in Ohio has selected as its next leader, Brooke Gessler, who is currently assistant superintendent of Sidney City Schools. And in Wisconsin, Tanya L. Fredrich, the assistant superintendent of teaching and learning for the School District of Elmbrook, will become superintendent of Monona Grove School District on July 1.
