Dr. Sheryl R. Abshire
As a leader in technology integration, she serves as catalyst to initiate the integration of technology into all curriculum areas throughout her school district, the state, & internationally. B.S. Early Childhood Education, M.Ed. Elementary Education, Educational Specialist School Administration/Supervision & a Ph.D. University of New Orleans in Educational Leadership & Administration. As an accomplished grant writer she regularly conducts institutes to fund innovative technology programs throughout the nation. A 41 year veteran educator, she has worked as a school principal, K-5 teacher, library/media specialist, classroom teacher, assistant professor at Lamar University, & as adjunct professor at McNeese State University & Louisiana Tech University.
She has been involved in diverse staff development programs throughout the nation involving restructuring schools through the infusion of technology and curriculum enhancements. She is a nationally recognized consultant/speaker. In 2010 she was appointed by the FCC to the USAC board representing the nation’s schools and libraries on ERATE matters. In May of 2009, ISTE awarded her the first Public Policy Advocate of the Year Award for work promoting educational technology. Sheryl served on ISTE Standards and Accreditation Committee & serves on numerous national, state, & district committees focusing on role of technology & curriculum integration in changing educational practice.

Diane W. Doersch
Diane W. Doersch is a Technical Project Director for Digital Promise and the Verizon Innovative Learning schools (#VILs) program. Before that she was Chief Technology & Information Officer for Green Bay Area Public Schools. As a former teacher, she has been involved in education for over 32 years. She is currently a board member for WIT (Women in Technology) Wisconsin, a team devoted to attracting, educating, and supporting women in the field of IT. She also serves on the Consortium of School Networking’s (CoSN) Board of Directors as well as the Board of Directors for the #EquityEDU nonprofit. Diane is passionate about providing technology and opportunities to ALL students to be college, career, and community ready, inspired to succeed in our diverse world.
Director, District Administration Leadership Institute
Amy Dujon brings over 20 years of leadership and instructional expertise to District Administration. Originally from Texas, Amy moved to south Florida for college and has lived there for the past 24 years. Previously, her leadership focus has been helping schools and districts throughout the United States to implement research-based systems to foster school improvement and increase student achievement. Amy spent the first 18 years of her career in the 10th largest public-school system where she served in a variety of instructional positions including Director of Leadership Development, Principal, and teacher. She is the author of “ The Gritty Truth of School Transformation: 8 phases to instructional rigor” and speaks nationally on the topics of leading instructional transformation, standards based planning and pedagogy, feedback to change practice, and effective instructional leadership.
Amy oversees content development for our DA Leadership Institute programing and serves as lead for CAO summits. When she is not at work she enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 children.

Dr. Peter Gorman
Dr. Peter Gorman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Peter Gorman Leadership Associates LLC, has been recognized nationally as an education leader and for developing outstanding leadership teams with more than 25 years of experience in education and business. He is the author of the book “Leading a School District Requires Clarity, Context, and Candor: An Aligned System to Increase Student Achievement at Scale” and contributing editor of “Board & Administrator” writing the lead column monthly. Along with his responsibilities at Peter Gorman Leadership Associates, Dr. Gorman is Superintendent in residence with the District Administration Leadership Institute where he serves as the Managing Director of the National Superintendents Academy delivering intensive instruction on the academic, political, legal and logistical complexities, and the demanding realities, confronting school leaders today. He is also Chief in residence with Chiefs For Change guiding the Future Chiefs program working to build a pipeline of “Future Chiefs” for states and districts.
Dr. Gorman’s career began as a second-grade teacher in Orlando, Florida. He worked as a teacher, principal, and district-level administrator in Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties in Florida before becoming superintendent of schools in Tustin, California. In 2006, Dr. Gorman became superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in North Carolina. Under his leadership, the district won the 2011 Broad Prize in Urban Education, which recognizes increases in student achievement and closing of achievement gaps. Twenty members of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Leadership Team during his tenure have been appointed as superintendents nationally. The book “Within Reach, Leadership Lessons in School Reform” chronicles his time with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and four other books reviewed aspects of his tenure along with numerous articles, research studies, and case studies. He then transitioned to the corporate world working as Executive Vice President of Education Services for Amplify, a division of News Corp, leading nearly 100 team members in the Government Relations, Marketing and Sales areas.
Dr. Tom Ryan

Dr. Tom Ryan
Dr. Tom Ryan is the Chief Information and Strategy Officer for the Santa Fe Public Schools and is also President of EMMERSION Learning, an organization dedicated to transforming education through the effective use of digital learning tools. He is an education professional with 36+ years of experience and expertise in teaching, leadership, technology, technology integration and blended/online learning program development. He works with schools leadership on strategic planning and leadership, designing digital learning environments, technology infrastructure reviews, and the shift to digital tools.
He is engaged in leadership activities in several state and national organizations including President on the Consortium of School Networking (CoSN) Board, iNACOL, ISTE, and the Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS). Work with the CGCS includes: large school district IT reviews of infrastructure, strategic planning, instructional technology, and digital transformation efforts. He also helps coordinate of the Councils annual CIO conferences. Dr. Ryan presents at several state and national conferences throughout the year.
Chief Information and Innovation Officer in Residence, District Administration
Lenny Schad is the chief information and innovation officer for District Administration. Schad has been working in the technology field for 28 years where his career has taken him into many business sectors, and he has established a very successful leadership and management track record. His range of business-sector experience includes hospitality, government, oil and gas, investment banking, and education.
Highlights of his career include managing and leading technology departments for the 1991 Economic Summit of Industrialized Nations and the 1992 Republican National Convention, and creating and managing technology departments for joint ventures and global organizations. Schad has worked in K12 education since 2003, and has successfully led implementations of BYOD and 1-to-1 in Katy ISD and Houston ISD, respectively. He is a board member for CoSN and IMS Global, and is a recognized leader whose innovative and process-oriented management styles have led to highly effective information technology departments.
The Changing Role of the CIO
The leaders of technology divisions must begin thinking of their role not in terms of providing “Technology Solutions” rather, they need to think of their role as being part of the “Classroom Experience.” As a technology leader you must face a new reality; because of the many cloud-based and digital service offerings, the organization can build their own solutions without you and your department. In order to avoid this CIO’s need to focus their time and energy on building relationships at every level in the organization. By establishing relationships and partnering with other leaders the technology department becomes the enabler to accomplishing the objectives in this changing landscape.
