Amy DujonVice President Education, Media and DA Leadership Institute
Amy Dujon brings over 20 years of leadership and instructional expertise to District Administration. Originally from Texas, Amy moved to south Florida for college and has lived there for the past 24 years. Previously, her leadership focus has been helping schools and districts throughout the United States to implement research-based systems to foster school improvement and increase student achievement. Amy spent the first 18 years of her career in the 10th largest public-school system where she served in a variety of instructional positions including Director of Leadership Development, Principal, and teacher. She is the author of “ The Gritty Truth of School Transformation: 8 phases to instructional rigor” and speaks nationally on the topics of leading instructional transformation, standards based planning and pedagogy, feedback to change practice, and effective instructional leadership.
Amy oversees content development for our DA Leadership Institute programing and serves as lead for CAO summits. When she is not at work she enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 children.
Dr. Julie EvansCEO, Project Tomorrow
Julie Evans is a National thought leader, researchers and advocate for the implementation of innovative learning environments in K-12 education. She has special expertise in the role of digital tools, content and resources to transform teaching and learning experiences. She has considerable accomplishments in developing innovative national and regional education reform programs and new research methodologies for evaluating the impact of emerging technologies.
The CIO’s New Role in Addressing the Chalkboard Challenge in America’s Classrooms
The CIO’s role and responsibilities today extend far beyond the server room. When thinking about the role of technology in the learning imperative of America’s schools, the emerging role of the district CIO as an agent of education transformation is more important than ever. Given a unique perspective on the value of technology, a new role for the CIO involves addressing how digital content, tools and resources are used effectively (or are not) to support enhanced teaching and learning. In this interactive two-part session, we will explore the realities of technology use within the classroom by closely examining the authentic feedback of K-12 students, teachers, parents and administrators and then use those insights to frame the current challenges and potential leadership role of the CIO in influencing and impacting the learning experiences of students.
Dr. Michael ConnerCEO/Founder, Agile Evolutionary Group
Michael Conner, Ed.D., is the CEO/Founder of the Agile Evolutionary Group. Dr. Conner also served as Superintendent of Schools, Chief Academic Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, Principal, Literacy Curriculum Specialist, and fourth-grade teacher. He is the creator and architect of the Disruptive Effect Model (Anchors of Innovation Science and Disruptive Excellence Framework). His book entitled, Intentional, Bold, and Unapologetic: A Guide to Transforming Schools in the AC-Stage of Education was released in December 2022.
Dr. Conner obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education/ Humanities from Lasell University. He also received his Master of Science Degree from the University of Bridgeport, a Sixth Year Diploma from Southern Connecticut State University, and a Doctorate in Education from Cambridge College. Dr. Conner completed the Executive Leadership Program at the University of Connecticut, the Harvard Superintendents Institute, and the prestigious AASA/Howard University National Urban Superintendents Academy in Washington, D.C. Dr. Conner obtained his Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics from Harvard University and an Advanced Certificate in Management, Innovation, and Technology from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
Keith KruegerCEO, CoSN
Keith R. Krueger is CEO of CoSN (the Consortium for School Networking), a nonprofit organization that serves as the voice of K-12 school system technology leaders in North America. CoSN’s mission to empower educational leaders to leverage technology to realize engaging learning environments. Technology & Learning selected him as one of the “big 10” most influential people in ed tech in 2015. In 2008 he was selected by eSchool News as one of ten people who have had a profound impact on educational technology over the last decade. He serves on many Advisory Boards, including eSchool News, the Education Committee of the National Park System, the Friday Institute at NC State University, and the Wireless Reach Advisory Board. He is a past Board Member/Treasurer of the National Coalition on Technology in Education & Training (NCTET).
Inventing the Future of Learning: The Role of the CIO/CTO
Engage in a interactive conversation on how visionary leaders can design the future of teaching and learning. We will start by reviewing key priorities from CoSN’s 2019 IT Leadership national survey of district technology leaders. Then we will discuss the mega-trends shaping K-12 education from the 2019 Driving K-12 Innovation series of reports. Hear what the experts say are the “hurdles” we are trying to overcome, the “accelerators” that are driving change, and what are the “tech enablers” that support smoother digital leaps. We will explore if any of these trends relate to your school district priorities, and if so, how you might begin a conversation with key stakeholders. Finally, we will explore the key role of the education technology leader, as well of tips and resources from CoSN to make your job easier.
Lenny SchadChief Information and Innovation Officer in Residence
Lenny Schad is the chief information and innovation officer for District Administration. Schad has been working in the technology field for 28 years where his career has taken him into many business sectors, and he has established a very successful leadership and management track record. His range of business-sector experience includes hospitality, government, oil and gas, investment banking, and education.
Highlights of his career include managing and leading technology departments for the 1991 Economic Summit of Industrialized Nations and the 1992 Republican National Convention, and creating and managing technology departments for joint ventures and global organizations. Schad has worked in K12 education since 2003, and has successfully led implementations of BYOD and 1-to-1 in Katy ISD and Houston ISD, respectively. He is a board member for CoSN and IMS Global, and is a recognized leader whose innovative and process-oriented management styles have led to highly effective information technology departments.
The Changing Role of the CIO
The leaders of technology divisions must begin thinking of their role not in terms of providing “Technology Solutions” rather, they need to think of their role as being part of the “Classroom Experience.” As a technology leader you must face a new reality; because of the many cloud-based and digital service offerings, the organization can build their own solutions without you and your department. In order to avoid this CIO’s need to focus their time and energy on building relationships at every level in the organization. By establishing relationships and partnering with other leaders the technology department becomes the enabler to accomplishing the objectives in this changing landscape.
