Health, Wellness Are Pivotal to the Student Experience in Maine District
Besides the bucolic scenery and lack of traffic in Hampden, Maine, people come to the area, which is just south of Bangor, for the quality of life and great schools. The community has a low crime rate, highly educated residents and small class sizes. At newly built Hampden Academy, for instance, the student-teacher ratio is 14.4:1. We spoke with Rick Lyons, superintendent of Maine District No. 22, about some of the successful programs running in his district.
