What is the DA Leadership Institute?

The mission of the District Administration Leadership Institute (DALI) is to provide cutting-edge professional development to school district superintendents and other senior education executives to inspire innovation and leadership excellence in K12 education.

This mission is accomplished through top-tier live events focused on intensive networking and collaboration with innovative solution providers, and through engagement in virtual communities to promote ongoing discussion, debate, and the sharing of professional resources and leadership initiatives.

headshot Joel Aune Joel Aune has been a school superintendent for fourteen years, including the last seven in the Snoqualmie Valley School District, east of Seattle. Aune is also currently serving as President of the Washington Association of School Administrators. During the course of his twenty-nine year career, Aune has served as a classroom teacher, principal, and superintendent.
headshot Twyla Barnes Dr. Twyla Barnes is superintendent and chief executive officer of Educational Service District 112 in Vancouver, Washington, as well as CEO of the SW Washington Childcare Consortium, recognized nationally as the largest public/private partnerships of its kind. A long-time champion of public education, Dr. Barnes’ career includes both teaching and administrative positions over the past three decades in Montana, Alaska, and Washington. She has served in her current position for 17 years.
headshot Joseph Cirasuolo Dr. Joseph J. Cirasuolo was named the Executive Director of the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CAPSS) in 2008. Previously, he was elected to his first superintendency in Clinton, CT in 1979 and later was elected superintendent in Wallingford, CT in 1990 where he served for twelve years.
headshot Michael Fitzpatrick Dr. Michael F. Fitzpatrick has been Superintendent-Director of the Blackstone Valley Vocational Regional School District in Massachusetts since 1994. A nationally recognized expert on career and technical education, he was featured in District Administration magazine in 2008 as the new face of CTE. The Massachusetts Superintendent of the Year 2011, he continues to promote school improvement efforts and a greater understanding of the value and relevance of CTE workforce preparation through numerous professional affiliations, including roles on executive boards of the American Association of School Administrators and the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents.
headshot Michele Hancock Dr. Michele Hancock became the 14th superintendent of the Kenosha Unified School District (KUSD) in July 2010. As Superintendent, Dr. Hancock oversees the third largest Wisconsin school district, with a student population of almost 23,000 students and 42 schools.
headshot Manuel Isquierdo Manuel Isquierdo is the Superintendent for Sunnyside Unified School District in Arizona.
headshot Sarah Jerome Sarah Jerome, Ed.D., is superintendent in the Arlington Heights School District 25, serving since 2006. She served in Wisconsin as superintendent in the School District of Kettle Moraine for 15 years prior to coming to Arlington Heights. Jerome served as president of The American Association of School Administrators (AASA) in 2007-08 and is the second woman elected to serve as president in the organization’s 148-year history.
  David Miceli
Dr. David Miceli is the Superintendent of Schools in the New Providence School District in New Jersey.  He has been Superintendent in New Providence for the past seven years.  Dr. Miceli began his career in education as a school psychologist and then moved into administration as Director of Special Services and then Assistant Superintendent.  He is the current President of the Union County Superintendents’ Roundtable and also served as its Treasurer.  Dr. Miceli serves on the New Jersey Association of School Administrators’ Executive Committee, and was the Chair of the Spring Conference for the past three years.
headshot Stephen Murley Steve Murley has served as the Superintendent of Schools for the Iowa City Community School District since July 1, 2010.  Prior to joining the Iowa City Community School District, Steve served the Wausau School District (Wis.), the Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools (Wis.) and the Neenah Joint School District (Wis.).  Steve’s career in education includes service as a teacher, coach, athletic department administrator, building administrator, human resources director in addition to his work as a superintendent.  Steve has also been active as a graduate school faculty member having taught at the University of Wisconsin – Superior and the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh.

Dr. Jane L. Beyer Westerhold is superintendent of Des Plaines (Ill.) Community Consolidated School District 62.  Westerhold has been an educator for more than 35 years, serving as a principal, director of curriculum and instruction, and assistant superintendent in various Illinois school districts. She is a member of the AASA Governing Board, the Treasurer and Executive Governing Board Member of the Illinois Association of School Administrators, and a member of the Suburban School Superintendents' organization.  Westerhold was named 2013 Illinois Superintendent of the Year.
